Carden Terry

The best known Cork silversmith was born in 1742, the son of John Terry, a burgess of Cork and Sarah nee Carden. Apprenticed in Cork he travelled to London and Dublin, returning to Cork in 1770 where he worked until his death in 1821. In 1791 his daughter Jane married the son of a jeweller, John Williams who went into partnership until John died in 1806. After that his wife Jane joined her father in the business. Their collaboration proved a success considering the amount of plate they produced but also the quality of their work.
