A Gold Etui, English or German, mid-18th century

10.1cm., 4 in. high

 

of tapering form, all sides decorated with a geometrical pattern of ovals in high relief, wavy rims, diamond push piece, the hinged lid opening to reveal the fitted interior with implements including a matching gold folding knife, a gold spoon, a gold sliding pencil holder, scissors, steel tweezers and a tongue scraper, all apparently unmarked, in the original silk-lined shagreen case.
